Julian’s Dons U10s vs Tulse Hill

Julian’s FC Under-10 Dons put in a pitch-perfect performance to defeat Tulse Hill.

Musicians often suffer from ‘second-album syndrome’. But 9 year-old girls from Streatham and West Norwood seem to have no such issues with ‘second-season syndrome’ as the Julians’ FC Under-10 Dons put in a pitch-perfect performance to defeat Tulse Hill 13-0.

Having been on the receiving end of a few heavy defeats to Tulse Hill last season, the boot was turned this time around as the Dons’ grizzled veterans lined up against an inexperienced Tulse Hill side and won handsomely. After racing into a 4-0 lead, the rest of the game played out at as a 7 vs 9 nine affair, with goals from Isabel (4), Luella (4), Cleo (3) Alice and Esme.

The girls (unknowingly) paid tribute to the late great Johan Neeskens by playing Dutch-style total football, rotating positions from striker to goalkeeper and passing the ball around beautifully. Tellingly, the girl of the match nominations were spread throughout the team, reflecting how well they played together. While these kind of games can be hard to play and watch, both teams really impressed with their commitment, sportsmanship and resilience.

The Dons played the Julians’ way, with many of the goals coming from great passing inter-play, and were respectful throughout. Tulse Hill didn’t let their heads drop and one suspects they’ll be a transformed team by the end of the season.
